At Dean Karen Schuele’s reception on June 21st, Margy Judd, Chair of the Program Committee, announced the speaker for the fall opening event on Thursday evening, September 27th.
Rick Smith, Director, co-founder, and CEO of Taser International (www.taser.com) will be telling the story of the founding of their company, which last year had record sales of $67.7 Million.
The purpose for the founding of the business stems from a tragic incident during which a family friend was accidentally shot by a police officer during a routine traffic stop. Rick and his brother, Tom, felt that there must be a better, non lethal way to subdue suspects. Rick comes to the EA to tell of the trials of getting their dream off the ground.
After graduating from Harvard cum laude in just three years (class of 1991), Mr. Smith entered directly into the Master of Business Administration Program at the University of Chicago, the youngest person accepted into his class that year. In two years, he completed both a master's degree in international finance from the University of Leuven in Leuven, Belgium and an M.B.A. with honors at the University of Chicago (normally a two-year program in itself), graduating in the top 5% of his class. After completing graduate school in the summer of 1993, he co-founded TASER International with his brother on September 7, 1993.
