Bill and Diane Valerian honored by Julie Billiart School. 6/5/2008

Julie Billiart School has presented The Spirit of St. Julie Medal to EA Master Member Bill Valerian and his wife Diane for their tireless efforts in leading the school’s recently completed capital campaign to a remarkable victory by raising more than $4 million. The award was presented at the annual Spring Benefit at Shaker Heights Country Club in late-April.

Located in Lyndhurst, Julie Billiart School is an alternative elementary school for children with learning disabilities. The school broke ground on an historic construction project in May of 2005 which was completed in 2006. The expanded and renovated school gives the students an outstanding environment for the best learning experience possible.

Thanks to the Valerian’s hard work and collaboration with many other volunteers, the new addition is fully paid as are the interior mansion renovations.

Residents of Shaker Heights, the Valerians have been longtime supporters of the school, which one of their adult sons attended. They co-chaired a successful, special fundraising event in September 2007 which signaled the final phase of the capital campaign. Bill is Chairman and CEO of Beachwood-based Liberty Bank, N.A., and Diane is a community volunteer.

The Spirit of St. Julie Medal stands as one of the highest honors that Julie Billiart School bestows upon an individual. In word and symbol, it represents the founding vision and dedicated leadership of the Sisters of Notre Dame, who through abiding faith, selfless leadership, outstanding service and unwavering commitment to truth, have inspired generations of the Julie Billiart family toward these noble pursuits.
