EA Company wins technology award from RadTech 6/5/2008
“The broad array of applications and processes of our ward winners is a tribute to the enabling and practical benefits of UV and EB,” says Peter Weissman of Quaker Chemicals, and Chair of RadTech’s Emerging Technologies Committee. “Each of these applications of UV and EB makes a significant contribution to the advancement of process technologies.”
DVUV, LLC uses UV-cured powder coating to custom finish MDF components. DVUV is also the owner and developer of LaserWood™, a patent-pending technology that combines high-speed laser embossing of wood grains, patterns or logos onto MDF substrate together with UV-cured powdercoat finishing to create the appearance of wood directly on MDF, without laminates or veneers.
The UV-curable powder used in the LaserWood process is formulated and manufactured by DVUV’s sister company; Keyland Polymer Ltd. LaserWood eliminates the need for laminate materials in a technological advance similar to the introduction of the MP3 music format and electronic downloading, which eliminated the need for CD media. By eliminating the need for laminate application, LaserWood streamlines the manufacturing process and greatly reduces material and energy usage, labor requirements, processing times and overall costs. The LaserWood process results from technological advances in laser imaging, UV-curable powder material development, and UV-curing and powder coating application processes.
