Whole Health Management Acquired by Walgreens 8/26/2008
Master Member Jim Hummer’s company Whole Health Management has been acquired by Walgreens, the nation’s largest drugstore chain, as a part of their new Health and Wellness Division. Walgreens will manage pharmacies and health centers at large-company work sites, while continuing to rollout the “Take Care Health Clinics” located at Walgreens stores nationwide.
Whole Health Management, founded by Jim in 1981, was a pioneer in delivering health services close to the customer. Their sites provide primary care, urgent care, health coaching, occupational health services and wellness programs to employees. The acquisition of Whole Health will leverage Walgreens presence in health care delivery beyond the traditional pharmacy model. Whole Health currently serves more than 300,000 employees at 69 sites, including many of America’s largest employers.
What’s next? Jim has most of the senior management team intact, and he would like to develop products to put through the Walgreens store distribution system. “There is a great deal of emerging technology in places like Cleveland. We would love to assist these upstart companies in distributing their health related products through this network”.
